I’m a big fan of people being exactly who they are, especially at work! How you “show up” at work is more than just putting on a work persona or being who you think “they” (whoever that is) wants you to be.
How you choose to present yourself has a direct link to your overall happiness both inside and outside of work.
Here are the 3 Ways to Be Your Authentic Self at Work:
1. Be Self Aware
Being aware of your strengths, your limitations, what makes you happy and even what frustrates you will help you to recognize when you are not showing up as your true self in a situation at work.
2. Be don’t “Try”
If you are truly “being” rather than “trying”, then you are being real. Recognize when you are putting up a front and not being real.
3. Be Yourself, but Be Careful
It’s ok to be honest when offering your opinions at work and it’s perfectly ok to share bits of your personal life but make sure that you clearly understand what is appropriate and what is not.
What's been you biggest challenge with showing up as your authentic self? I would love to hear from you.
