When searching for a new job whether in your industry or not, it's important to hone in on those key qualities that you bring to the table. Often, these qualities are referred to as, transferable skills.
What are transferable skills and why are they important?
These are the skills that you have gathered over the course of your career journey, your education and/or even through internships or volunteer opportunities. Being able to show/speak to your transferable skills allows hiring managers to see just what skills and sometimes value you would bring to their organization.
What are some examples of transferable skills?
Transferable skills can be either hard or soft skills, my recommendation is to include both types on all things concerning your personal brand, your resume, cover letter, etc. Examples could include: Communication, Creativity, Flexibility, Critical Thinking and/or Leadership. There are many others that could be added to this list.
When is the last time that you have taken an inventory of your transferable skills? I have a running list of transferable skills that I have for not only myself but also that I share with my clients. If you would like to grab a copy, I'm happy to share.
